The Cassanga Challenge

The Cassanga Challenge is a multi sport adventure race in the Pokhara Valley and Upper Seti River region of Nepal, to honour the memory of Cassandra Elise Emary – an inspirational young woman who was dedicated to improving the lives of women in Nepal through outdoor adventure pursuits & eco tourism.

The adventure race includes elements of cycling, running & whitewater kayaking. There are 3 options of participation to make the event most inclusive.

THE CASSANGA CHALLENGE

THE CASSANGA CHALLENGE is our original adventure race format and includes 7km cycling, 6km running & 6km whitewater kayaking. Inspired by Cass’s love to experience new adventures and crush new goals, we wanted to give our paddling community a new perspective.

It’s a 7km bike ride from Pokhara’s Lakeside tourist area to Yamdi Campway Restaurant at the Upper Seti River Rafting take-out point.

Mountain bikes only – No road bikes allowed.

It’s then a 6km run from the Yamdi take-out point to the Mardi Khola Confluence put-in point of the Upper Seti River.

Finally, the main skilled element of the challenge – kayaking 6 km down the spectacular, steep, challenging & technical Upper Seti River (class III+ / -IV Himalayan whitewater).

A compulsory safety pre-run is required on the 25 Oct. We will not run the ‘Gorge Rapid’ – this is a compulsory portage section.

THE HALF CHALLENGE

Due to popular demand, we have added THE HALF CHALLENGE to the event. This includes the first two elements of cycling 7km and running 6km only, allowing non-paddlers to be a part of the competition! The route will be exactly the same.

No safety pre-run is required. The 25 Oct is a free day or offers the chance to join the RAFT TRIP.

RAFTING TRIP

Finally, the RAFTING TRIP is an opportunity for anyone to join the event without breaking a sweat! We will provide professional guides & safety equipment to lead participants rafting down the Upper Seti River, following race kayaking participants during the safety pre-run.

This day is sure to be a lot of fun together as we celebrate the spirit of Cassanga in preparation for the big main event the next day.
